God, create a clean heart for me
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore the joy of your salvation to me,
and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit.
Psalm 51:10-12
Inhale
Take off spiritual stagnation
Exhale
And put on the joy of God’s salvation
Hey friends - usually there is a prayer in this part of the “meditation for the week/weekend”, but as I was preparing for this weekend’s meditation, I felt a tug and conviction to share this passage on renewal. Perhaps you are at a place - not just this week, but the last few weeks, months, or maybe years - where you have been desiring a renewed desire in your pursuit of following the Ways of Jesus.
A word of encouragement: willpower will take you longer to “get there”. Earning your spot back in the path of God’s love will take an eternity. Rather, try praying that psalm; simply ask your loving Father in Heaven to restore the joy of His salvation, to clean your heart, and watch Him work.
I’m not saying it’ll be instantaneous (or maybe it will be, who knows!), but what I do know is that all the Lord requires is a willing and humble heart. One that says, “God, here I am! All of me. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful. Make me more like You.” Watch. Him. Work.
I pray spiritual renewal happens soon in your life.
I pray that when it does take place, the people in your life notice it because of how it bleeds out toward them.
I pray that when it does take place, the joy you first felt and experienced when you first came to know the goodness of the Lord would be revisited and experienced yet again. Or maybe this is the first time ever for spiritual renewal to take place in your life. And if it is, then may the joy you experience and understand be the best thing you’ve ever tasted in your life.
I’ll end with the lyrics of a song from the days as a youth student growing up in the church. It’s been on my heart the last couple of months and I don’t think it’s coincidence. Cheers, my friends. May this weekend renew, restore, and rejuvenate your soul.
Lord, send revival, start with me,
For I am one of unclean lips,
And my eyes have seen the King.
Your glory I have glimpsed:
Send revival, start with me.
